My politically incorrect opinions and comments

Yesterday I recommanded my friends to watch "Insight" on the SBS TV channel. It was about

gun laws in Australia. Today I feel a bit like a fool and almost bound to apologize for having

submitted my best friends who had never done any wrong to me, to watch what has to be the

dumbest, lousiest program on any television worldwide. This time it went far beyond the

mere futile and shallow approach that we are accustomed too with this parody of a debate

which last 55 minutes but when you take away all the adds one end up with 35 mn if lucky

(or unlucky!)

This time I believe that it was a pure exercise in propaganda in what is now admitted by the

silent majority as "political correctness". The stage was set to bash the cause of civilian gun

ownership one again. Beat it flat this time by inviting a majority of anti-gunners, Johnny

Howard himself will be towering all along in respectful silence, an aggressive leader of the

Greens, representatives of the SSAA were not invited...

There was even worse (and here we really can see the ropes): Invite two first order victims of

the infamous shooting of Port Arthur (April 1996) whose arguments against "guns"  (note the

imprecise, generalist denomination here) cannot be opposed while remaining within the

limits of what is socially acceptable.  Oppose them vehemently and you will be taxed as

"grossly insensitive". We were forced to empathize with the victims (and I did too, especially

at the mention of the murdered daughter and father) in the early stages, therefore derailing any

chances of a cool and honest analytical debate. Instead wee were herded into the realm of emotions

and this unsavoury women Carolyn Loughton literally hijacked the show, describing in intimate

details all the surgical processes she had to go through, in a loud high pitched tone of voice,

intentionally shutting up the poor Mp Robert Brown who was trying to place a word in

defence of legal gun owners...  NO mention whatsoever of the Islamic terrorist nature of the

murder of Curtis Cheng by his son as if the tragic death of his father was solely due to a

"gun". (This gun was an illegal weapon therefore outside the topic of gun regulation)... Moslems

should not be amalgamated with terrorists but this "no amalgam" rule obviously doesn't apply

when we deal with gun owners... Jenny Brockie preposterously failed to play her rôle as

"the devil's advocate" even for a moment, in favour of gun owners in the context of an

overwhelming majority of detractors... It was pathetic. Once again, repression was the main

subject, that included the only vocal "pro" (the other had a talking time of about 1 minute

total) who suggested a doubling of sentence for illegal gun owners... (He was referring to

criminals but in the process this includes the odd peaceful gun owners who "forgot" to

declare a gun but  poses no threat to society). Johnny Howard coolly went on describing how

he pushed to shape these new gun laws overnight while the iron was still hot, soon after the

Port Arthur atrocity... This whole show was a farce, merely a mouthpiece for the former

prime minister who had it so easy so far, set to drive his new agenda: Tighten the screw even

more in the future! It  was excruciating. It saddens me beyond the topic of gun laws: It shows

how we are dominated by an intelligentsia whose single way of thinking is to be forced upon

us, manipulated by the media, under the thumb of a government, deprived of democratic

rights to propose any alternative on the public platform, where deep and confronting

philosophical debates are definitely out of question.
